Course Overview

This intensive 5-day hands-on training program is designed to provide participants with the practical knowledge and technical skills required to program, configure, and integrate Rockwell Automation Allen-Bradley Panelview HMI systems.

The course is ensuring progressive learning from basic graphic development to complex control applications, networking, and data handling.

Prerequisites

  • Basic understanding of electrical control systems

Training Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand wiring of relays and PLCs I/O channels
  2. Identify and configure MicroLogix hardware and I/O channels.
  3. Develop, test, and troubleshoot ladder logic programs in RSLogix Software.
  4. Ability to use RsLogix Instructions to implement control logic.

Day 1 – Fundamentals of HMI & PanelView 1000

  • Introduction to HMI systems & AB PanelView family
  • Overview of  FactoryTalk View ME 
  • Hardware architecture: PanelView 1000 models, comms & ports
  • Exploring device networking (DH+, RIO, Ethernet/IP, DF1)
  • Lab: Power-up, connect, and upload existing project

Day 2 – Creating Basic HMI Applications

  • Creating a new HMI project (FactoryTalk ME)
  • Screen creation, navigation buttons, display types
  • Tags — direct vs. HMI memory tags
  • Downloading & runtime file management (.MER)
  • Lab: Build a basic HMI with 2–3 screens + PLC comms test

Day 3 – Advanced Graphics & Process Control Screens

  • Real-time data objects: numeric display, multistate indicators
  • Control objects: pushbuttons, momentary/maintained, selector
  • Alarm setup & diagnostic messages
  • Animation / color / visibility logic
  • Lab: Create process mimic screen with alarms & security

Day 4 – Integration with PLC & Maintenance Diagnostics

  • Linking PanelView to PLC Tags (RSLogix 500 / Studio 5000)
  • Diagnostics screen for maintenance troubleshooting
  • Password & security configuration (operator levels)
  • Message displays / fault logging
  • Lab: Real PLC integration + simulate fault/alarm reset

Day 5 – Advanced Features & Project Deployment

  • Trending, data logging & recipe management
  • Backup, restore, project export & version management
  • Troubleshooting communication faults
  • Best practices for industrial HMI safety & usability
  • Capstone Lab: Build & deploy full process HMI with security, trends & alarms
