Course Overview

This intensive 10-day hands-on training program is designed to provide participants with the practical knowledge and technical skills required to specialize in Industrial Electrical and Instrument Installation, QA/QC and Pre-Commissioning

Target Audience

Prerequisites

  • Basic understanding of physics
  • Familiarity with Windows-based PC operation
  • Prior Instrumentation experience is helpful but not required

DAY 1 – Fundamentals of E&I Systems (Beginner Level)

Morning Session

  1. Introduction to Industrial E&I
  • Role of E&I fitter in industry
  • Overview of industrial sectors:
    • Oil & Gas (upstream, midstream, downstream)
    • Manufacturing plants
    • Power generation plants
  • Safety culture (HSE basics, PTW, LOTO)
  1. Electrical Basics
  • Voltage, current, resistance (Ohm’s Law)
  • AC vs DC systems
  • Single-phase & three-phase systems
  • Basic electrical components (MCB, relays, contactors)

Afternoon Session

  1. Instrumentation Basics
  • Measurement principles: pressure, temperature, flow, level
  • Types of instruments:
    • Field instruments
    • Control room instruments
  1. Drawings & Documentation
  • P&ID basics
  • Loop diagrams
  • Wiring diagrams
  • Instrument datasheets

Practical

  • Identify instruments & electrical components
  • Reading simple loop diagrams

DAY 2 – Installation & Field Practices (Intermediate Level)

Morning Session

  1. Cable Installation & Termination
  • Cable types (power, control, instrument)
  • Cable trays, ladders, conduits
  • Glanding & termination techniques
  • Earthing & bonding
  1. Industrial Standards & Codes
  • IEC standards (basic introduction)
  • Hazardous area classification (Zone 0, 1, 2)

Afternoon Session

  1. Instrument Installation
  • Mounting transmitters (pressure, level, flow)
  • Impulse lines (tubing practices)
  • Installation of junction boxes
  1. Construction Best Practices
  • Alignment, spacing, tagging
  • Inspection & QA/QC checklists

Practical

  • Cable glanding & termination
  • Instrument mounting & tubing

DAY 3 – Control Systems & Wiring (Advanced Intermediate)

Morning Session

  1. Control Systems Overview
  • PLC basics
  • DCS basics
  • SCADA systems overview
  1. Field Wiring & Looping
  • Analog signals (4–20 mA)
  • Digital signals
  • Loop checking procedures

Afternoon Session

  1. Panels & Control Cabinets
  • MCC panels
  • Control panels
  • Junction boxes & marshalling panels
  1. Wiring Practices
  • Ferruling, tagging
  • Cable routing standards
  • Panel wiring techniques

Practical

  • Loop wiring simulation
  • Basic PLC input/output wiring

DAY 4 – Calibration, Testing & Pre-Commissioning (Advanced Level)

Morning Session

  1. Instrument Calibration
  • Pressure transmitter calibration
  • Temperature transmitter (RTD/Thermocouple)
  • Flow & level calibration basics
  1. Calibration Tools
  • Multimeter
  • Loop calibrator
  • Pressure pump

Afternoon Session

  1. Testing & Pre-Commissioning
  • Pre-commissioning checks
  • Cold Loop checking

Practical

  • Calibrate a pressure transmitter
  • Simulate faults and troubleshoot

DAY 5 – Tools and Equipment

  1. E&I Tools and Equipment usage
  2. Final Assessment
  • Practical evaluation
  • Troubleshooting scenario
  • Q&A session

Day 6 to Day 10: 

  • Self practice at our facility with hardware and software
